The Murphy's Law of Long Weekends....

The rain started Friday morning, and the sky cleared 6:00 pm on Monday. I got a lot done inside. Bolstered by the success of my jacket muslin, I had the courage to cut into the $25/yard Jenne Maag fabric. The pattern is really quite well designed. I was a little scared when I first looked over the pattern, because it doesn't really have many notches for matching points, but the pieces fit so well together, it's unnecessary. I've already sewn together all the body pieces...I just have to press and do the Hong Kong finish on two more seams, then I'm ready to set in the sleeves, and sew on the collar, the facing, the belt, and hem. I'll take some pictures tomorrow during the day...I haven't mastered taking pictures of projects at night.

I'm just sitting here, in the office/sewing room, listening to the nighttime noises, and enjoying the scents of freshly cut grass and some sort of night-blooming flower.

Should be sewing...

...but I'm not. Not at this moment. I've been a bad blog writer, so I thought I'd procrastinate and kvetch for a bit.

So, I'm planning on making a new outfit for the wedding that we're going to in June. We're leaving 8 June, and I'm going to start the muslin for the jacket tonight. I'm having issues with the sizing....here's the sizes for the jacket, from the Indygo Junction website.

I don't know....it just seems really whacked as compared to real-life sizes... (I know I'm not exactly Kate Moss-sized, but it just seems, well, small)

So...I'm off to test it out

What I did today...

For the past several months, I've been growing out my hair. I used to have really long hair (mid-back length), and now I have it really short (like 1.5" long). So, I had this idea to let it grow. I was fine with that and its nasty mop-like look until O and I went to Jo-Ann's last weekend. One of the cashiers had short hair like I had, pre-grow out...then today, picking up a few things for this evening's block party, I saw another woman with "the good hair"....

That did it. O and I went home, and I found my clippers.

It's now back down to one inch long...

And I love it.

Disorganization at its finest...

I am not an organized person. I am the first to admit it. I use a system of various Safeway/Ben Franklin's/Jo-Ann's Fabric bags to hold most of my projects on the go. Other important things are held in a series of boxes, bins, and random piles. This general lack of organization kind of worked when I was single, and lived by myself, but now that I am married to The Most Organized Man on the Planet, this non-system has its challenges. Like tonight.

You see, the Murphy's Law of Projects kicked in...as in, the pattern/book/instructions that you need right now is usually the one you cannot find. I needed my Indygo Junction Trench Topper pattern, and of course, it was nowhere to be found. After much searching, with more than a little cursing, I found it. It only took two hours.

Happy Mothers' Day!

Well, I had a great Mothers' Day. I had breakfast made for me, then O and I planted some stuff in our back yard, and then we went to Seussical. O loved it, especially the Cat in the Hat. She sat enraptured by the singing and dancing for almost the entire show, and then she fell asleep during the last ten minutes.

On the knitting front, I'm still plugging away at O's little cardi...I've done the front left side. I haven't done a lot of knitting lately...I've been knocked around by my allergies. I haven't had them this bad in the spring in a long time, but then, this is the first year I've done a lot of gardening. And I hate taking allergy medicine, since it all makes me so groggy. Well, it could be worse...one woman I knew when I was in Art History was allergic to alcohol, sugar, caffeine, and chocolate.

That's just wrong....

Am I going to be sore tomorrow...

After I write this, I am going to collapse into bed and do some knitting. It's my reward for doing stuff today. My big joke around here is that I do one useful thing a day...well, today, I outdid myself. My useful things, (in no particular order) included cleaning the front windows, vacuuming the rugs, going to the dentist, watering the front flower beds, and planting a vegetable garden with O. She was really excited about the garden. We have orange carrots, purple carrots, beans, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, red peppers and jalapeno peppers planted in it. The plan is to turn the one weed patch beside the back patio into a kitchen garden, with all kinds of herbs in it. The previous owners weren't big into gardening, and let all the flower beds turn into monstrous weed pits.

Can't wait for those purple carrots...
